rain of the century?or the beginning of a new one?

i read in awe in NST the other day that the rain which made almost all parts of johor, negeri sembilan and also melaka was stated by the weather people that this rain happens to be...centennial. the rain would go on for days, maybe weeks or so, and none of suns glare would penetrate them thick clouds and give life. oh yeah i saw it in bulettin utama last night, its like the scene of a disaster outside of malaysia. but its in johor! cars swept away by currents, trampled houses, rold over suvs (suv tuh!) and only vehicles that can pass through the was deep water are lorries and modded suv with thick tyres and a snorkelling pipe.

oh yeah what im trying to say is that, are you sure its centennial? you know, its the time of the year where this monsoon peralihan is taking place. but in years ago, people who have been living in the klang valley have not experienced such a thing. monsoon peralihan or monsoon sumatera is the time and moment where there's change in wind flow from the south west heading east coast....to the north east heading south west. and in recent years, (i dunno about technology going haywire in the y2k effect, but the weather, it does. hmmm) the whole climate seems to be worsening. in perak at this time of the year, it should be pretty dry. i remembered playing rugby and got a really bad scratch by just one fall on the ground. some of you guys experienced it also. but then, in perak now, it maelstorm with heavy rains, large ocean currents and windy skies. not the perak i know. and the perak we knew was wrong either. its not supposed to be dry like that. imagine, 3 years of sudden change from complete dryness to utter wetness. heheh lovely.
if i want to show the statistics of the global CO2 effect on to the environment, nah, u guys wont take into high attention, but how about if i say, the total nett effect of these greenhouse gasses not only raises the temperature of the earth, but also because of that, it changes the current movements in the atlantic ocean. what? what is the connection of the atlantic ocean with storms in SEA? a lot. actually the current movements in the atlantic ocean influence a lot on weather patterns and climate changes. watch the movie "day after tomorrow" for more information and knowledge. need i to explain more? well, the emission of CO2 gasses alone can make haywire weather patterns. it could be tropical storm for months in the SEA, and years of drought in the third world country. a sudden snow storm in malaysia? we had that hujan batu phenomenon once. so its not impossible. experts say if we stop all the production of CO2 into the air now (industrial, not us. we breath out CO2 mind you) climate haywire will go on and on for the next 30 years.

imagine, 30 years of more floods in johor, Utor and Durian in phillipines, thailand and vietnam, loads of other end of day prophecies will come out which i dunno what. 30 years! that will take most of our lives as an adult. but then, there's no stopping of CO2 emissions right now, not this year even. or next year. maybe the effect would be prolonged to lets say, 40 to 50 years? wow. im impressed how earth works.

so guys, dont be surprised by this statement: the "day after tomorrow" scenario is a possibility. its just when and how long.

if you dont care much about weather change and humans can adapt to it, well, adapt this: food will become scarce. how? the rise in sea temperature or even salt index drops or rises (due to the melting of the big two ice cubes at the edge of the world) will influence the fisheries in them seas. fish are very sensitive to temperature rise and the change in salt index. siakap, our lovable common fish, must breed at cold temperatures and grows healthily at a strict temperature of 24-25 celsius ONLY. more than that, it will die. imagine the sea temperture in south china sea rises to just 27 celsius. we might not have sushi or ikan bakar anymore. the same goes to plants, and livestocks. we can adapt to climate change but they cant. if they cant, we will not survive.

so as a fellow engineering student (i know you guys are engineers, doctors, policy makers and all) it is up to us to find whats best for us (that's the first action of human mind, save thyself) and also protect the environment. look into interest of the word "sustainable development" and you'll be amazed at how we mankind can produce such results.
also look into agenda 21, millenium development goals, global marshall plan and yadayadayada the list goes on. its very important for us to know. after all, we will get this ugly piece of globe from our generation before aite? dang they really dunno how to take care of it, and now they are making comments on how to take care of it!

My statement on the economy.

Malaysia's Economy Has Lost Its DirectionMalaysia is currently at a crossroads: we can either move forward by focusing by building national competitiveness and addressing the widening gap between rich and poor; or we can remain without a clear direction by squabbling on racial quotas as the mediocrity, corruption and inequality reign.


While the recent UMNO Assembly talked about more governent intervention and regulation not so much to help the poor but the politically connected, countries which were lagging far behind a decade ago are swiftly and surely overtaking us, either now or in the near future. In the 1970s and 1980s our peers were Singapore, Taiwan and Korea – they are now far ahead of us. China and India have emerged as economic giants. We are now losing out to Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.


The government has failed miserably in propelling our economy. To enjoy the economic growth we had from the 1970s to the 1990s, we need to attract foreign investment. In 1990, UNCTAD placed Malaysia fourth in the world in terms of attracting foreign direct investment; now we are 62nd. Even Indonesia has overtaken us in terms of foreign direct investment. Even our own private investment has crashed to a percentage less than it was in 1990. In spite of the recent excitement at Bursa Malaysia – Thailand, Singapore, Korea and Taiwan - which lagged behind a decade ago in terms of market capitalisation has overtaken us.


The current administration made battling corruption their main pledge in the last general elections. Yet no politial will has been shown to prosecute the major corruption cases, whilst the Prime Minister and former Prime Minister engage in a surreal battle on who has given more contracts to their children. No wonder we have fallen a further five places – from 39th to 44th – in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index.


On the ground, 80,000 of our graduates are unemployed. The country is not moving sufficiently high up in the value chain as we continue to rely on foreign workers to keep wages low. But just as we cannot compete with the high-skill workforce of Korea, Taiwan or Singapore; neither can we hope to compete with the low wages of China, Vietnam or Indonesia. The public also has to cope with rising prices as inflation is projected to be the highest in seven years whilst wages have remained unchanged.

RUNTUHANYA SURAU KAMPUNG BEREMBANG............

INI BUKAN SEMENANJUNG GAZA..TAPI SEMENANJUNG MALAYSIA...

Berikut adalah catatan kasar beliau mengenai kronologi kejadian itu. Lokasi Surau Ar-Rahimah Kampung Berembang, jam 9.00 pagi...hujan gerimis Renyai hujan pagi itu, menandakan kesuraman di suasana Kawasan Kampung Berembang sedang bersedia 'meratapi' kesayuan kerana rumah Allah yang dibina atas limpahan peluh dan jerih payah akhirnya bakal tumbang walaupun dihalang dengan kudart, darah dan air mata hamba-Nya. Penduduk kira-kira 30 orang sudah mula berkumpul dan mundar-mandir sekitar surau dua tingkat yang tersergam gagah. 10.00 pagi - Secara perlahan-lahan empat buah jentolak mula memasuki kawasan berhampiran surau. Tidak terkecuali, dua buah trak tunda untuk 'menarik' kenderaan penduduk yang menghalang jalan. 10.15 pagi - Ketumbukan pasukan 'angkatan pemusnah' yang terdiri daripada pasukan Majlis Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) lebih 100 orang, anggota polis berpakaian preman dan seragam termasuk FRU dan dua pegawai Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) menghampiri penduduk dan orang awam yang mula membenteng surau tersebut. Dari jauh, kelibat beberapa orang daripada pihak pemaju sedang memerhatikan kerja-kerja yang bakal di lakukan oleh 'angkatan pemusnah' Pegawai Jais cuba memujuk penduduk dan meminta penduduk mengosongkan kawasan surau tersebut Penduduk dengan air mata merintih supaya pihak Jais berunding dengan pihak MPAJ akan menangguhkan perobohan surau tersebut. Kata penduduk, jika keputusan tidak menyebelahi, mereka reda dan mereka masih mempertahankan surau tersebut kerana selain tempat solat dan beribadat, ia menjadi 'pusat perlindungan' sementara bagi penduduk kerana beberapa hari lalu MPAJ telah bertindak merobohkan lebih 50 kediaman dan penempatan mereka. Di sekeling surau, kelihatan khemah-khemah didirikan oleh penduduk kerana mereka tiada tempat berlindung. Surau tersebut juga adalah tempat tidur bagi sesetengah kanak-kanak malang yang rumah mereka telah dirobohkan. 10.45 pagi Rundingan gagal malah pegawai Jais tidak langsung berusaha untuk memujuk MPAJ dan tanpa hati kemanusiaan, MPAJ dengn keras hati memulakan kerja-kerja dengan mengarahkan supaya memasuki surau tersebut, namun pintu pagar hadapan dikunci oleh penduduk. Sementara MPAJ mencari jalan, kira-kira 20 orang menunaikan solat hajat di hadapan pintu pagar tersebut. Selesai sahaja mereka kemudian berzikir dan berselawat secara beramai-ramai bersama penduduk kampung yang berada di situ kerana mahu mempertahankannya. Seorang anggota MPAJ menghidupkan enjin gergaji besi untuk memotong pagar tepi surau tersebut dan melihat sahaja keadaan itu penduduk dan orang awam mula membina benteng - tangan bersilang tangan bagi menghalang daripada MPAJ merempuh masuk ke dalam surau. 11.00 pagi 'Perang bermula' Tanpa sekelumit rasa simpati dan perikemanusiaan MPAJ dengan kasar merempuh benteng manusia dengan mengasari mereka, memukul, menyiku, mencekak dan menumbuk beberapa orang penduduk. Asak-mengasak berlaku, dan dua daripadanya telah diheret daripada kumpulan benteng manusia itu ke satu sudut oleh enam orang MPAJ dan polis Kanak-kanak yang berada di atas surau menyanyikan lagu 'Negaraku'. Pergelutan terus berlaku di empat penjuru yang berbeza dan keadaan menjadi tegang dan hilang kawalan. Keadaan menjadi bertambah buruk apabila anggota polis dan FRU turut masuk campur dan bertindak memukul penduduk serta penyokong mereka yang berhimpun di situ. Setelah pagar tepi dipotong, penguat kuasa MPAJ meluru masuk ke dalam surau dan merempuh kumpulan remaja perempuan dan kanak-kanak yang menjadi 'kubu manusia' di dalam surau tersebut. Seorang wanita pengsan kerena diheret dan bergelut dengan anggota wanita MPAJ Di bahagian bawah surau, tiga beranak merantaikan diri mereka di tiang surau tersebut kerana tidak sanggup membiarkan MPAJ merobohkannya. Peristiwa memilukan ini berakhir dengan MPAJ memotong rantai besi tersebut dan bergasak dengan tiga beranak itu yang mengakibatkan si suami tersebut muntah-muntah dan kemudiannya pengsan. MPAJ menyelongkar, mengumpil cermin tingkap dan memecahkan bahagian dalam surau tersebut bagi memudahkan jentolak untuk 'memusnahkan' surau itu. Di luar surau masih berlaku pergaduhan serta pergelutan kecil dan insiden kejar mengejar antara anggota dan beberapa penduduk di situ. Teriakan, jeritan dan pekikan kaum wanita kerana meratapi perbuatan ganas MPAJ menyelubungi suasana Di bahagian tepi surau kelihatan tiga remaja perempuan hampir pengsan dan longlai akibat bergelut dengan MPAJ Kemuncaknya, 11 ditahan oleh anggota polis yang terdiri daripada pendudk kampung dan aktivis pelajar Tragedi Kampung Berembang seolah-olah mengulangi situasi Memali apabila pihak berkuasa merempuh masuk ke madarasah untuk menangkap individu tertentu. Bezanya tiada tembakan dan gas mata mewarnai suasana kali ini. Bezanya pihak berkuasa kali ini merempuh masuk, untuk memusnahkan surau. 12.30 tengah hari Sebuah jentolak merobohkan bahagian hadapan surau ketika para penduduk dan sukarelawan melaungkan "Allahu-Akbar","Hidup rakyat" dan "Hidup Islam" bergema di ruang angkasa Kampung Berembang. 01.00 petang Akhirnya, 'Rumah Allah' roboh jua dan azan Zuhur sudah tidak berkumandang lagi... Kampung Berembang kelihatan seperti 'zon perang' dengan penduduk "bergelimpangan", antaranya menangis kesakitan, manakala sebahagian lagi pengsan dan cedera dipukul MPAJ dan polis. Yang masih tersergam di surau tersebut ialah sebatang tiang elektrik yang dililit dengan bendera-bendera kecil Barisan Nasional. Penutup Menutup 'acara pesta' meroboh surau pada hari itu ialah, acara 'majlis makan nasi bungkus' anggota MPAJ dan polis secara beramai-ramai di dalam trak, di bawah dan di celah pokok sambil memerhatikan penduduk-penduk yang kesedihan, kepenatan apatah lagi kelaparan. Dan yang paling menarik upacara nasi bungkus itu khabarnya ditaja oleh pemaju yang bakal membina projek di atas tapak surau...
